RIPE

Fall 2018

Ripe is a series featuring pansy flowers—the slur "pansy" often being directed at queer and effeminate men in Western cultures—a material that has been utilized in past installations. The plants act as objects capable of showcasing the physical effects of nurturance and neglect. I’m interested in how these materials can propose discussions on the commemoration of life. Who is seen and who is left in the dark? How have these decisions influenced our understanding of the past through its documentation and archiving? And what are its impacts on the present and future?
