GESTURES
Spring 2019
gestures is a series of performances that explore my own relationship with the ongoing AIDS crisis as an HIV-negative millennial born in 1994. My relationship is guided by discussions with people who endured it and consuming of media from the '80s onward. As current discourses on HIV/AIDS shift towards the introduction of preventative medications like PrEP, the historical significance of this experience within the LGBTQ2SAI+ community feels neglected. The performances, documented afterwards in the form of zines, work towards recognizing this history, the genocide that took place, and illustrate my concerns regarding the commercialization of queer identity.
